I'm pretty sure it's a function of the shape of the land and the influx of part of the Gulf Stream that does it. This is right in the very end of the Bay of Fundy, known for having the highest tides in the world. At any point serious injury could have occurred from a fall related to the water issue or illness from food contamination from rodents. So my friend and I went tidal bore rafting yesterday in Maitland, Nova Scotia. ![]() I was seeking compensation for our stay.We booked a 5 bedroom facility to which we received 4. I emailed the owner Steve Elder.I have waited 10 days for a response, but have received none. Many cosmetic details were discovered: faulty light switches, burnt out bulbs, leaky faucet in the kitchen mended with a rubber band, a couch with no legs, satellite tv not working. In the interim we had to walk or drive to the office to use the facilities. The chalet ran out of water, a water truck had to be brought in. Rodent droppings were found in kitchen drawers and cupboards.Overnight, bread and cereal packaging was chewed through. We initially put towels on the floor to soak the water up, but ended up putting pots in place to catch the dripping water.Housekeeping said that this problem had occurred in the past.We we’re a large group of three families and the bedroom with the water issue had been assigned to my mother who required main level bathroom and bedroom accessibility. The water on the floor made it a safety hazard for my elderly mother. Due to leaking water through the ceiling one bedroom on the main level was unusable. This rating is for the accommodations at the 5 bedroom chalet. from the Bay of Fundy!!!!! Whirling waters, criss crossing waves slopping our raft constantly, but no one seemed to care.… Imagine drifting along carried by the incoming tide. No back up plans, no back up rafts, no rope, no 2 way radios.and no concern. When we drifted by the landing, another employee stood 100 feet away on shore waving to us as we coasted on by (he was holding a rope, but the distance was too great for a toss!).when the other rafts returned from their experience, some time later, one of them arrived empty to take the passengers back.while en route another rescue raft stopped next to us, and asked if WE had any rope!!! I mean, really.they sent a rescue raft without a rope? While we finally got back home safely, I never detected any sense of urgency from our guide nor the 'home office.' On their website you read 'we committed to your safety".personally, after this experience, and having found out there are new owners since around April, that slogan should read 'committment to profits.' Competing raft companies down the river a bit send along a spare raft + driver, as who would not, running such a business. ![]() ![]() ![]() the rafting trip was the issue.our raft's battery died moments before the arrival of the tidal bore.another raft guide drove by and tried to start it without success.thus, we drifted for miles in the tidal churn without power, oars and only some occasional input from the raft guide.she contacted the office to be told that there was NO back up raft and the only other one sitting around the property was deflated, full of rain water and a broken transom. The cottage was great.lots of bottled water provided, BBQ grill.
