I'm pretty sure it's a function of the shape of the land and the influx of part of the Gulf Stream that does it. This is right in the very end of the Bay of Fundy, known for having the highest tides in the world. At any point serious injury could have occurred from a fall related to the water issue or illness from food contamination from rodents. So my friend and I went tidal bore rafting yesterday in Maitland, Nova Scotia. I was seeking compensation for our stay.We booked a 5 bedroom facility to which we received 4. I emailed the owner Steve Elder.I have waited 10 days for a response, but have received none. Many cosmetic details were discovered: faulty light switches, burnt out bulbs, leaky faucet in the kitchen mended with a rubber band, a couch with no legs, satellite tv not working. In the interim we had to walk or drive to the office to use the facilities. The chalet ran out of water, a water truck had to be brought in. Rodent droppings were found in kitchen drawers and cupboards.Overnight, bread and cereal packaging was chewed through. We initially put towels on the floor to soak the water up, but ended up putting pots in place to catch the dripping water.Housekeeping said that this problem had occurred in the past.We we’re a large group of three families and the bedroom with the water issue had been assigned to my mother who required main level bathroom and bedroom accessibility. The water on the floor made it a safety hazard for my elderly mother. Due to leaking water through the ceiling one bedroom on the main level was unusable. This rating is for the accommodations at the 5 bedroom chalet. from the Bay of Fundy!!!!! Whirling waters, criss crossing waves slopping our raft constantly, but no one seemed to care.… Imagine drifting along carried by the incoming tide. No back up plans, no back up rafts, no rope, no 2 way radios.and no concern. When we drifted by the landing, another employee stood 100 feet away on shore waving to us as we coasted on by (he was holding a rope, but the distance was too great for a toss!).when the other rafts returned from their experience, some time later, one of them arrived empty to take the passengers back.while en route another rescue raft stopped next to us, and asked if WE had any rope!!! I mean, really.they sent a rescue raft without a rope? While we finally got back home safely, I never detected any sense of urgency from our guide nor the 'home office.' On their website you read 'we committed to your safety".personally, after this experience, and having found out there are new owners since around April, that slogan should read 'committment to profits.' Competing raft companies down the river a bit send along a spare raft + driver, as who would not, running such a business. the rafting trip was the issue.our raft's battery died moments before the arrival of the tidal bore.another raft guide drove by and tried to start it without success.thus, we drifted for miles in the tidal churn without power, oars and only some occasional input from the raft guide.she contacted the office to be told that there was NO back up raft and the only other one sitting around the property was deflated, full of rain water and a broken transom. The cottage was great.lots of bottled water provided, BBQ grill. More about Wilde's 2011 BCA 10 Award here. Unpasteurized juices have a short shelf life of only a few days. Refrigeration does not destroy pathogens, it only slows their growth. They taste good and last much longer than untreated juice. These products are just as nutritious as if they were not heated. Most commercially pasteurized juices are heated to about 85☌ (185☏) for about 16 seconds to destroy the pathogens that may be present. Does pasteurization reduce the nutrients in juice? If in doubt, ask the seller before deciding to buy and drink the juice. Check if the word “unpasteurized” is on the product label. The labelling of unpasteurized juice is voluntary. Freshly pressed or squeezed juices sold at juice bars or at roadside stands and farmers’ markets are likely unpasteurized. Most juices sold in stores are pasteurized and will have the word “pasteurized” on the product label. Fruit and vegetables can become contaminated during growing, harvesting, storage or processing. coli O157:H7 outbreaks are linked to food or water that has been contaminated with cattle and animal feces. These pathogens are commonly found in cattle feces. Children on field trips to farms or farm markets should not be offered unpasteurized juice. Schools, child and adult day cares, hospitals and other facilities serving vulnerable groups should not sell or serve unpasteurized juice. These vulnerable groups should not drink unpasteurized juice. A few others include Vibrio cholerae, Clostridium botulinum, yeast and hepatitis A. The most common pathogens in unpasteurized juice are E.coli O157 and O111, Salmonella, Cryptosporidium and norovirus. Other fresh fruit juices such as pineapple, carrot, coconut, cane sugar, banana, acai and mixed fruit juices have also made people ill. Most of these outbreaks involved unpasteurized juices and ciders such as apple cider, orange juice and lemonades. These outbreaks caused foodborne illness in 1,700 people and 2 deaths over a 20 year period (1990-2010). In Canada and the US, there were 29 recorded juice and cider outbreaks. They must be kept refrigerated and consumed by the best before date. These products have a short shelf life of a few days. Raw freshly pressed or squeezed juices are not heat treated and are described here as unpasteurized. This also allows the juice to keep longer as it destroys many of the microbes that can cause spoilage. Pasteurized juices have been heat treated to destroy pathogens (germs) and microbes that can make us sick. What is the difference between pasteurized and unpasteurized juice? Once you can process ore, you get a 50% improvement in productivity, and this is available early on for copper, tin, and iron. Using blast furnaces -> induction furnace -> casting machine gets you 3 plates per 4 crushed ore, so it's a small improvement. Smelting sorted ore is actually worse, at 1 plate per 2 crushed ore. Smelting crushed ore directly nets you 2 plates per 3 crushed ore.Eventually you'll need silicon ore for tier 2 circuits and blue science anyhow. Eventually you'll need a larger greenhouse setup, but 5 or 10 greenhouses will take you a long ways. You can sort a small batch manually for your starting factory. Sorted bobmonium gets you silicon, which lets you make glass and then greenhouses to automate your wood production. You'll want to start sorting your ores fairly early on.This will make life easier when you decide to set up crystallization recycling or green algae production. If you bring all your ores to a central refinery location, it lets you collect all your waste crushed stone/slag into a central repository.I found myself running back and forth constantly, so I ended up laying brick underneath the entire factory. Turn the stone into bricks, walls and stone pipes. When starting off, use assemblers making stone from crushed stone to sort the belts before sending the crushed sapphirite and stiratite to your smelters. You can get through red and green science by smelting crushed ores directly. Here's a few things I wish I knew going into it that would have made my life a lot easier: I just started a Bob/Angel factory, and my massively spaghettified base just got to blue science. Look both ways before you cross the tracks. The only significance is life, which leads to the further wisdom. Every assembler is but a visitor to where it resides. Let your anxiety wash away as you perceive that every belt placed can be moved. Most games punish you for building, demolishing and rebuilding. Nichols invented a 2×2×2 "Puzzle with Pieces Rotatable in Groups" and filed a Canadian patent application for it. History Precursors Diagram from Nichols' patent showing a cube held together with magnets Since 2003, the World Cube Association (WCA), the international governing body of the Rubik's Cube, has organised competitions worldwide and recognises world records. Many speedcubers continue to practise it and similar puzzles, and compete for the fastest times in various categories. It has inspired other designers to create a number of similar puzzles with various numbers of sides, dimensions, and mechanisms.Īlthough the Rubik's Cube reached its height of mainstream popularity in the 1980s, it is still widely known and used. For the puzzle to be solved, each face must be returned to have only one colour. A salaryman trying to solve a Rubik's cube in an izakaya after work in Japan, 2008Īn internal pivot mechanism enables each face to turn independently, thus mixing up the colours. On early cubes, the position of the colours varied from cube to cube. Since 1988, the arrangement of colours has been standardised with white opposite yellow, blue opposite green, and orange opposite red, and the red, white, and blue arranged clockwise in that order. Some later versions of the cube have been updated to use coloured plastic panels instead, which prevents peeling and fading. On the original classic Rubik's Cube, each of the six faces was covered by nine stickers, each of one of six solid colours: white, red, blue, orange, green, and yellow. The Rubik's Cube was inducted into the US National Toy Hall of Fame in 2014. As of March 2021, over 450 million cubes had been sold worldwide, making it the world's bestselling puzzle game and bestselling toy. It won the 1980 German Game of the Year special award for Best Puzzle. The cube was released internationally in 1980 and became one of the most recognized icons in popular culture. Originally called the Magic Cube, the puzzle was licensed by Rubik to be sold by Pentangle Puzzles in the UK in 1978, and then by Ideal Toy Corp in 1980 via businessman Tibor Laczi and Seven Towns founder Tom Kremer. The Rubik's Cube is a 3-D combination puzzle originally invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik. Starting with the same 30-ton graphite, t he Abu Garci a V eritas rods employ Sublayer Armor with high strength fibers that substantially improve hoop strength and durability. Designing this series with Winn advanced polymer Dri-Tac grips, Abu Garcia ensured a cushioned point of contact for a full day of fishing. Combining Abu Garcia’s iconic features with custom rod grips by Winn, this lineup includes the Vendetta LTD and Veritas LTD standalone rods, along with the Revo X LTD and Revo S LTD spinning and casting combos. In addition to the consistent drag, we haven’t experience any of the annoying aftermath of a big hookset—the line didn’t dig into itself on the spool, allowing us to get right back to fishing without having to shed line from the spool.Providing exceptional performance and durability with a comfortable, well-controlled grip was the idea behind Abu Garcia’s new LTD Program rods and combos. So far the reels feature a drag that spools line smoothly and evenly for a consistent drag throughout.Īs I was fighting a 4-pounder in 20-feet of water during my testing, the drag remained steady and effectively absorbed the shock of multiple surges towards deeper water. The form factor of the reel is lower to the reel seat making the reel even more palmable.Ību Garcia also upped the ante on the Generation 3 REVO STX with an improved carbon matrix drag system. Abu Garcia has fixed that problem this year, which can be attributed to both the ergonomic design and the new, softer reel grips. With the Generation 2 REVOs, I had a lot of problems hitting my knuckles on the drag star during big hooksets, resulting in multiple bloody knuckles throughout the year. This year’s model features a slightly bent reel handle and drag star, making it a pleasure to fish with. We have also been impressed with the highly improved ergonomics of the REVO STX. Designing this series with Winn advanced polymer Dri-Tac grips, Abu Garcia ensured a cushioned point of contact for a full day of. For even the most experienced anglers, a backlash is bound to happen every now and then, but I have still not managed to bird nest this reel, and I’m no KVD when it comes to casting. Combining Abu Garcia’s iconic features with custom rod grips by Winn, this lineup includes the Vendetta LTD and Veritas LTD standalone rods, along with the Revo X LTD and Revo S LTD spinning and casting combos. I’ve spent most of my testing throwing a 1/8-ounce shaky head, and the REVO STX has been nothing but outstanding. My first cast sailed about 20-yards with no trace whatsoever of a “professional overrun,” which impressed us. I wanted to cut through all of the fluff and go straight to the source of the problem, so I tied on a Shad Rap and turned all of the brakes off before I ever made a cast with the STX. Less weight equals less fatigue, and less fatigue equals a more enjoyable fishing experience.Ību Garcia’s older, Generation 2 REVOs had some issues with castability, but they have hit the nail on the head with this year’s REVO STX model. Anytime you’re considering buying a reel, its weight should be a big factor. I picked this up about a year and a half ago. Whether you’re flipping heavy jigs or bombing lipless baits this fall, you will notice an enormous difference in the feel of these reels. I decided I needed to do a review of the Revo S Baitcaster reel as I have had some requests to do one. While this may seem like an inconspicuous difference, it is a 29-percent weight reduction, which is a huge deal. Obviously, Size 30 is a little bigger and a little heavier than Size 20. There are two size options in this line: Reel Size 20 & Reel Size 30. With Abu Garcia’s new, compact design and utilization of advanced materials, these reels are more than 2.5-ounces lighter than the Generation 2 models. The Abu Garcia Revo MGXtreme is the most expensive spinning reel from Abu Garcia but it is also the best. The most noticeable difference in the new REVO STX is the reduction in weight from the previous models and the smaller form factor.

C++ defines a number of different data types here we'll talk only about those used in Arduino with an emphasis on traps awaiting the unwary Arduino programmer.īelow is a list of the data types commonly seen in Arduino, with the memory size of each in parentheses after the type name. The Arduino environment is really just C++ with library support and built-in assumptions about the target environment to simplify the coding process. You may want to familiarize yourself with a few concepts before we get started: This tutorial will cover the basic data types available in Arduino, what they're typically used for, and will highlight the effects of using different data types on the size and performance speed of your programs. And sometimes it seems like it should be easy, but it turns out to yield results you might not anticipate. The compiler, then, is left trying to figure out what I mean when I say "add this integer to that floating point." Sometimes that's easy, but sometimes it's not. You, the programmer, tell the compiler that this value is an integer and that value is a floating point number. The ALU doesn't care what that data represents to a user, be it text, integer values, floating point values, or even part of the program code.Īll of the context for these operations comes from the compiler, and the directions for the context get to the compiler from the user. At their core, the heart of the device is an arithmetic-logic unit (ALU), which performs (fairly) simple operations on locations in memory: R1+R2, R3*R7, R4&R5, etc. Computers, including the Arduino, tend to be highly data agnostic. |
